Original Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Eight Views of Omi

Comments - Charming triptych of a nobleman and a group of beauties enjoying a picnic. The young man smiles happily as he kneels on a red floral carpet, a tray with a sake cup and another piled with sweets nearby. At left, a kneeling woman gestures with her hand, while the princess standing in the center looks out across the water at ships returning home. The expansive landscape behind them combines all of the famous "Eight Views of Omi," a traditional Japanese subject more commonly rendered as eight separate scenes. Each of the views is labeled with a red cartouche. Beautiful detail in the elegant kimono and obi fabrics and the handsome natural setting. An attractive image with an unusual treatment of a popular landscape theme.

Artist - Yoshitora (active circa 1840 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 28"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Slight paper remnants on reverse at corners from previous mounting.
