Beauties at Leisure, 1890

Comments - Lovely triptych depicting a group of upper-class ladies at leisure, enjoying a variety of activities. At bottom center, a young woman performs a tea ceremony, carefully opening a tea caddy to mix the tea, all the necessary tools and equipment spread out before her. At left, a kneeling beauty crochets yarn, a Western technique that gained popularity during the Meiji era. The woman behind her paints a scene of a crane beneath a pine tree, bowls of pigment on the floor nearby. The three other women read a book, write a poem, and arrange flowers. Beautiful color and detail in the elegant kimono fabrics and household furnishings, with touches of embossing on the white kimono collars.

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 27 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Horizontal and vertical folds. Slight soiling and creasing, light staining. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
