Ohara-me in Spring, 1952

Comments - Charming modern portrait of an Ohara-me or woman from the village of Ohara near Kyoto. These beauties are known for their distinctive costumes, and can often be seen in the streets of Kyoto selling flowers and firewood. She pauses for a rest, sitting on a bundle of firewood, wearing a blue patterned coat with the sleeves tied back. She has a gray print apron over her robe, and her hair is protectively covered with a white cloth decorated with a scene of a bridge and water. A blossoming cherry branch frames the scene at upper left, with delicate pink petals scattered across the ground. An attractive design published by Unsodo, nicely detailed with fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Higuchi Tomimaro (1898 - 1981)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 9 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at left corners from previous mounting, faint toning. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
