Original Katsushika Taito II (active circa 1810 - 1853) Japanese Woodblock Print
Carp, circa 1830 - 1844

Comments - Fantastic design of a large carp leaping out of a swirling pool of water, its body twisting and fins flapping. Concentric rings spread away from the fish in delicately shaded blue ripples, with green aquatic plants visible below the surface. The scales of the carp are beautifully detailed and shaded, adding a sense of depth. A classic subject and a beautiful Edo era print by Katsushika Taito II, one of Hokusai's best students. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A dynamic image and a great choice for a collector of ukiyo-e.
