Moon Light at Takanawa, 1856 - Lovely triptych depicting beauties enjoying the cool evening air on a verandah overlooking the harbor at Takanawa. At right, a woman leaning against the railing takes a toothpick from her mouth as she turns to chat with a maid. The servant carries a lamp with a painted paper shade, smiling happily. Another beauty relaxes in the center, leaning against a wooden pillar with a dreamy as she admires the glowing full moon, a flock of birds passing before it in silhouette. The waterfront below is busy as porters carry passengers by palanquin and pedestrians stroll along the water's edge. Ships are moored in the harbor for the night, the masts rising up against the softly shaded evening sky. A beautiful and rare Hiroshige triptych with soft shading in the water and sky.
