Comments - Terrific view of the Sumida River on a summer night, with fireworks sending rays of red sparks shooting across the sky. At right, a beauty on the dock prepares to step onto a pleasure boat, her companions inside watching her rather anxiously. At center left, a beauty rests one hand atop the cabin of a boat, wearing a blue-green kimono bordered with a kingfisher and reeds. At lower left, a servant in a tie-dyed robe carries a red lacquer tray with refreshments on it. The water is crowded with ships of all sizes, and near the far shore at top center, a group of men can be seen swimming. The Ryogoku Bridge at left is packed with pedestrians enjoying the fireworks display and the cool evening air. A wonderful depiction of a favorite seasonal activity in Edo, with fantastic detail.
