Original Yoshitomi (active circa 1848 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print

Comments - Interesting portrait of a Russian woman and her son in Yokohama. She holds up a ribbon or a length of yarn from the package in her other hand, pausing to look at the boy as he peers out from around her full yellow skirt. Her blue bodice is trimmed with pink sleeves and a ruffle, and a sheet blue veil hangs over her face from her ornate cloth headdress. She also wears a string of pearls or beads. he son is dressed in a long pink jacket and a black hat. A great example of the prints depicting foreigners in Japan.
