Landscape at Mimeguri

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Beautiful panoramic view of Mimeguri Shrine at Mukojima in eastern Edo. Visitors stroll along the embankment of the Sumida River at left, climbing down the stairs to walk across pathways flanked by rice fields to the shrine buildings. At lower right, a horse pulls a plow through a flooded field while another farmer carries a hoe as he walks past. The grounds are dotted with blossoming cherry trees, and banners rise above the foliage at right. A wonderfully detailed landscape.

Artist - Toyoharu (1735 - 1814)

Image Size - 9 7/8" x 14 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A few light creases near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
