Colonel Sato Charges at the Enemy Using the Regimental Flag as a Crutch in the Fierce Battle of Newchang, 1895

Comments - Dramatic scene from the Battle of Newchang during the Sino-Japanese War of Colonel Sato using a regimental flag as a crutch. He leans heavily against the support as he stands atop a vanquished enemy, thrusting his sword high to direct the charge. His men rush forward, disappearing into clouds of smoke as they confront the Chinese. The composition focuses all attention on the valiant leader, who despite weariness and pain, continues to lead his troops. A great design, beautifully drawn and shaded.

Image Size - 14" x 18 5/8" + margins as shown
