First Makeup of the New Year, 1935

Comments - Lovely shin hanga design of a beauty seated with a hand mirror, applying the first makeup of the New Year. She concentrates on her reflection as she adjusts a hair pin, her robe slipping from her shoulder. Beautifully detailed with delicate line work in the face and hair, soft bokashi shading in the background, and embossing in the pine branches and cherry blossoms decorating the red-orange kimono. A charming modern beauty image, rarely seen on the market.
