Comments - Handsome triptych depicting the beauty Shizuka Gozen rushing into her lover Yoshitsune's room at Horikawa Palace as forces arrive to attack him on the orders of his brother, Yoritomo, with whom he has been fighting. He sits up in bed, holding a suit of armor in one hand and gripping his sword with the other. The woman hurries barefoot towards the open doorway, her arms outstretched to bid him a last goodbye. She wears a flowing kimono patterned with grasses and floral motifs, lined in a soft pink with an embossed wave pattern. A lacquer chest rests on the floor next to her with the lid leaning against the side. Beyond the verandah railing, banners flutter in the evening sky under a softly glowing moon. A lovely image, beautifully drawn. Nicely detailed with embossing in the samurai's white robe and the beauty's white under robe and pink kimono lining, with touches of burnishing on the chest and the armor. A very attractive design.
