Beauties Eating Crab

Picture Book of Modern Figures of Fashion, 1802

Beauties Eating Crab - Great image of beauties feasting on crab in a teahouse interior. A crouching woman holds a crab leg near her chin, her cheeks bulging, while a companion leans over a black lacquer tray, scooping the meat from the body of a crab shell. A woman behind her, leans back as she sings and plays the shamisen, while a beauty at lower right reclines on the floor, resting her head sleepily on her hand. A rather comic image, wonderfully detailed.

Artist - Toyokuni I (1769 - 1825)

Image Size - 7" x 5 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Loss at bottom right corner, a few small wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling and rubbing, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
