Original Meiji era Japanese Woodblock Print
Russo-Japanese War Naval Battle, 1904

Comments - Dramatic depiction of a naval battle during the Russo-Japanese War. The Japanese warship at right has just fired a shot sinking the Russian vessel at left. An explosion bursts at the back of the enemy ship as it sinks beneath the waves, with gray smoke billowing skywards. At left, another Russian ship takes a hit, and in the center, a third lists badly to the side. The crew of the Japanese ship lines the railing, cheering at the hit, sailors waving their hands as officers thrust their swords high. The ocean churns with white-capped waves and shells explode all around. A lively action scene.
