Nobleman Reading a Scroll, 1876

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a nobleman pausing to look up as he reads from a scroll. He frowns angrily at his companion, who leans forward in an agitated manner, scowling back at him. The nobleman wears a blue floral coat over a darker blue kimono tucked into patterned pants, a black lacquer hat atop his head. The fan-shaped inset above shows a red sun through the branches of a pine tree. Nice expressive figures set off by the bold red tie-dyed textile pattern in the background. Includes burnishing in the black kimono collar and hat.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Faint toning near edges, a few creases. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
