A Cherry-blossom Party, circa 1843 - 1847

Comments - Lovely triptych of three women enjoying a party to view the blossoming cherry trees. The beauty in the center reaches up to break off a fragrant branch of white flowers as her companions watch. The woman at right carries an offering tray with a large covered lacquer bowl on it, smiling happily. The beauty at left carries a paper lantern decorated with the title of the scene, pausing to look back over her shoulder. Her kimono features an interesting pattern of wooden bullfinches and cherry blossoms, tied with a blue brocade obi. A beautiful design with the flowering trees set off by a sky shaded from gray to white to blue. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
