Series; The Prelude to Desire, 1799 - While other lesser artists fed the mass market demand for shunga with cheap, hastily produced prints, in his production of "A Prelude to Desire" (Negai no itoguchi), Utamaro elevated the art form. His sensitive and expressive portrayals of lovers remain some of the greatest works of art in a field that was explored by the finest artists of the golden age of woodblock printing. Original prints from this series are quite rare - bid now on this Utamaro masterpiece!

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Vertical crease at center. Some light toning or soiling. A couple small holes repaired. A few light spots. Please see photos for details. Very nice overall.
