Comments - Terrific kabuki scene of five otokodate or street knights under a flowering plum tree. They wear matching tie-dyed kimono tied with black and red checked obi. Each carries a shakuhachi flute, which could be used as a weapon, along with a single sword. Dotted with white blossoms and buds, the ancient plum tree is set against the dark night sky, providing a dramatic backdrop for the group. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kodanji IV as Kaminari Shokuro, Bando Takesaburo I as Gokuin Sen'emon, Nakamura Fukusuke I as Hotei Ichiemon, Iwai Kumesaburo III as Karigane Bunshichi, and Kataoka Gado II as A no Heike. A handsome design with fine shading in the background.
