Picnic by a Stream

Comments - Terrific Utamaro subject of beauties relaxing in the countryside, enjoying an afternoon picnic along a rushing stream. At right, one woman holds a toy boat, ready to drop it into the water, the red geometric pattern of her under robe showing through her sheer black silk kimono. Next to her, a beauty reclines with a pipe while another holds a goblet. Wonderful delicate embossing in the flowing water and the floral pattern on the kimono at far left. A classic Edo era scene with beautiful soft color that would make a lovely framed display. An especially finely printed old triptych of a rarely seen subject.

Artist - Utamaro (1750 - 1806)

Image Size - 14 1/2" x 30 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Faint toning. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
