Miracle at Hakone, 1851 - 1852

Comments - Fantastic kabuki scene of the young warrior Katsugoro fighting his sworn enemy Takiguchi at the waterfall near Hakone. Katsugoro miraculously regained the use of his legs after the ghost of his wife Hatsuhana prayed for his recovery. She appears here in the waterfall, her hands clasped together, as Katsugoro casts aside his wooden cart and battles Takiguchi, who had murdered his brother. A dramatic image with a fantastic natural setting, the sun rising in the morning sky at left.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 29 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Horizontal centerfold in each panel. A few small holes and thinning spots, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling, a few stains in left panel. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
