View of Imperial Visit of Mikado Ingyo to Princess Sotoshi, 1901

Comments - Intriguing triptych of the beautiful Princess Sotoshi standing on a verandah at night as she watches her lover, Emperor Ingyo, arriving with a group of courtiers. Her outer robe is patterned with delicate blue blossoms, and she wears an elaborate necklace. She looks back over her shoulder as group approaches, red flames and smoke rising from their glowing torches. The men have mustaches and beards, and wear necklaces similar to the beauty's. A mountain is barely visible along the horizon as evening falls. A fascinating print with fine detail in the faces and hair, and lovely brushstrokes in the graceful willow tree framing the scene. A beautiful, atmospheric subject.
