Warriors Representing the Six Immortal Poets, circa 1839 - 1841

Comments - Interesting triptych depicting warriors as the famous Six Immortal Poets. In the left panel, Kumagae Renshobo stands in for the monk Kisen Hoshi and Udaisho Yoritomo is Otomo Kuruonushi. In the center, Kenrei mon’in appears the Lady Ono no Komachi while Udaijin Sanetomo is shown as Ariwara no Narihira. The right panel includes Satsuma no Kami Tadanori fills in as Fun'ya no Yasuhide and Gen no Sanmi Yorimasa takes the place of priest Sojo Henjo. A fascinating play on this traditional Japanese subject with expressive figures and fine detail in the clothing and armor.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels. Small at loss at top corner of right panel, a few small thinning spots and holes, repaired. Creasing and rubbing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
