Fight outside a Temple

Comments - Fantastic kabuki illustration of a fight taking place outside a temple. The man in the center stares back over his shoulder as he swings his sword, knocking down an attacker at right who tumbles head over heels. His horse waits patiently at left, a small lantern hanging at its side. At right, stone statues of Buddhist deities are lined up in a row beneath the pine trees, with a full moon glowing in the dark night sky. A striking design with an atmospheric setting and large expressive figures.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A couple small holes, slight thinning at one corner, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, faint offsetting. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
