Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a samurai and his young son preparing to commit suicide when they are interrupted by a concerned woman. At right, the samurai stares at her with an angry frown, gripping a dirk wrapped in white silk. Another warrior stands behind him with a sword, ready to cut off his head if necessary. The woman stares at the samurai solemnly, throwing her hands out in alarm. She wears a black kimono patterned with floral medallions against a wavy yellow grid, over a white under robe, her long hair combed straight down over her shoulders. The boy looks up curiously at left, another warrior serving as his second behind him. Nice large expressive figures set off by a deep red background, detailed with fine line work in the hair, embossing in the white robes, and burnishing in the black kimono.
