Series; Thirty Portraits of Contemporary Actors in Kabuki Plays
Nakamura Fukusuke VII as Osome, 1952 - Wonderful kabuki portrait of Nakamura Fukusuke VII as the geisha Osome, performing a dance. She waves one sleeve gracefully as she turns her head to the side, an intent expression on her face. Her blue violet kimono features a pattern of tie-dyed green cards wrapped with red yarn, trimmed with a black collar and worn over an under robe with a red floral print. Her hair is adorned with clusters of flowers, a red tassel, and tiny silver metal rectangles that swing as she moves. Beautifully detailed with soft pink shading around the eyes and embossed lines at the sides of the nose. The gray background is enlivened with swirling baren marks, and the silver hair ornaments shimmer with mica. A perceptive portrait, handsomely composed.
