Present-day Genji Visiting the Rokujo Mansion, 1856

Comments - Handsome scene of a modern young Genji arriving at the Rokujo Mansion by palanquin. A tattooed porter lifts the reed blind from the side of the palanquin as the nobleman prepares to step out, the other porter getting his sandal ready. The beauty greeting him seems surprised to see him, holding her sleeve to her mouth in astonishment. The other woman also seems amazed at his appearance. His sword bearer follows behind carrying a parcel wrapped in red cloth as a servant bows before him. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. A terrific image with wonderful detail, framed by delicate cherry blossoms.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels. A few small holes, and thinning spot, small tear at bottom of fold between center and right panels, repaired. Creasing, slight soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
