Shinagawa Susaki

Series; One Hundred Famous Views of Edo
Uo-ya Eikichi 1918 Edition Print

Shinagawa Susaki - Terrific panoramic view of a shrine dedicated to the goddess Benten on the edge of Edo Bay. The shrine is known as Susaki because of its location on a "susaki," a narrow spit of land extending out into the water. Two tiny figures pass through the torii gate leading to the red shrine building, while others cross the Torimi Bridge over the Meguro River at lower right. The water is dotting with cargo ships and fishing boats, with a flock of birds overhead flying off into the distance. A handsome subject with attractive color and soft shading in the sky and water.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 8 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at sides from original folio mounting. Faint toning, minor offsetting, a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
