Hiroshige (1797 - 1858) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Ox in the Peach Garden

Publisher - Adachi from a rare series of Edo masterwork designs. Adachi publisher seal in margin or on reverse.

Adachi was one of the most respected publishers of the 20th century. Their woodblocks were printed to the highest standards with excellent color and fine detail. Founded in 1925, Adachi also chose interesting and varied subjects for their prints and was the only publisher of many famous old ukiyo-e images.

Comments - Attractive pillar print featuring an ox moving about the blossoming peach orchard, a narrow stream zigzagging across the ground. The verse at upper right reads "Grasses of the field lie under the fog, I come back from the peach garden in rain." The blue of the stream and the ox's horns and mane and the pink of the peach flowers add color to the softly shaded gray background. A handsome design, not often seen in reprint

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 14 3/4" x 5" + margins as shown

Condition - Excellent overall with no issues to report.
