Series; Japanese and Chinese Comparisons for the Chapters of Genji
Iga Jutaro Seizing the Belt of a Mounted Enemy, 1855 - Dramatic scene of the warrior Iga Jutaro seizing the belt of an enemy on horseback, pulling him backwards as his horse rears on its hind legs. Jutaro stares up at him with a determined expression, simultaneously grabbing the naginata in the riders hand, using his full weight as leverage to take down his opponent. A terrific image with a striking composition, the diagonal of the pole arm adding a dynamic element. A bold comparison for Chapter 17, "Eawase," from the "Tale of Genji."
