Series; Twelve Months of the Floating World

April: Ota Dokan - Poignant image of a young woman named Benizara presenting a flowering branch to the great 15th century leader Ota Dokan. Caught in a rain shower while hunting, Dokan stopped at the rundown mill owned by Benizara's father and asked to borrow a straw raincoat. Instead, the beauty humbly presented him with a tray of yamabuki, yellow mountain roses, while reciting a 10th century poem. An assistant had to explain to Ota that the family was too poor to lend him a simple coat, and he felt terribly ashamed, deciding then and there to learn poetry so he that could become more empathetic. The beauty bows her head respectfully as the nobleman looks down at her with a stern expression, a bow at his side and a quiver of arrows at his back. A handsome scene.
