Cherry-blossom Viewing on the Sumida River Embankment, 1847-52 - Lovely view of pedestrians strolling along the Sumida River embankment, enjoying the cherry trees in bloom. In the center, three beauties turn to watch as a man dances past them, lifting his foot high and waving a fan as his companion plays the shamisen. One of the women giggles with amusement behind her kimono sleeve. At right, a man carrying a gourd container gestures at the group of women ahead of him. Rooftops spread across the opposite bank, with an arched wooden bridge over a canal in the center. A charming spring scene with soft shading. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
