Tomigaoka Hachiman Shrine at Fukagawa, circa 1832-34 - Terrific view of the great torii gate at Tomigaoka Hachiman Shrine at Fukagawa, with visitors strolling about the grounds. The setting sun is beautifully framed between the pillars, a soft red glow spreading across the horizon. Several beauties pass under the gate as an elderly man leaning heavily on his walking stick approaches from the other direction. A pine tree and large sago palms provide a counterpart to the gate at right. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection. Nicely colored.
