Original Kiyoshi Saito (1907 - 1997) Japanese Woodblock Print
Maiko, Kyoto

Comments - Lovely portrait of a seated maiko or apprentice geisha, easily identifiable as being from Kyoto by the distinctive tying of her obi, which trails straight down the back. She wears a dark green kimono bordered with rich red brown, and the black obi features a bold pattern in warm gold. The nape of her slender neck is exposed, and her hair is arranged in a rounded bun accented with hairpins and ribbons. The figure is set off by a patterned background in tones of gray. A beautiful design.

Signed - Kiyoshi Saito in black ink near lower left, with red artist's seal

Artist - Kiyoshi Saito (1907 - 1997)

Image Size - 15 1/2" x 10 1/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight tape residue in top margin and on reverse at top corners. Faint ink (?) notation in bottom margin, slight creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
