International Incident, 1884

Comments - Fascinating scene of a battle between Koreans and foreigners. At left, a Korean commander on horseback urges his men forward with his fan. The soldiers rush forward to meet an army of bearded foreigners wearing red jackets, black boots, and blue caps, with large packs on their backs. Some of the men battle on horseback with swords and pole arms, while infantry men wield guns with bayonets and swords. Flags of different nations flutter in the wind at right, and many ships are massed in the harbor beyond. An intriguing image, nicely detailed.

Artist - Kunisada III (1848 - 1920)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent detail as shown. Three separate panels. Horizontal and vertical folds in center panel. A few small losses at edges, a few holes and thinning spots, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
