The Sumida River in the Eastern Capital, 1861

Comments - Lovely view of the Sumida River in springtime, the water busy with traffic moving along the water. A nobleman and a group of beauties ride in a boat in the foreground, the young man smiling as he looks over his shoulder. A beauty kneels beside him, holding a package wrapped in blue cloth, while the young girl at right gestures with her finger. At left, a ferry carries a samurai, a monkey trainer, a lion dancer, and two musicians across the river. At right, steps lead up the grassy embankment, lined with blossoming cherry trees. A charming design, nicely detailed, with embossing in the white kimono trim and bokashi shading in the water and sky.
