Series; The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido by Two Brushes

Hara, 1854 - Lovely design from the "Tokaido by Two Brushes" series featuring figures by Toyokuni III and landscape insets by Hiroshige. Here, a beauty pauses beside a yoke across two large wooden buckets, with small porcelain cups overturned on the lid of the pail at left. She fans herself as she looks up, smiling, wearing a light blue vest over a darker blue robe, both patterned with writing in white. A blue and white towel protects her hairstyle from dust while traveling. The inset above shows a magnificent view of Mt. Fuji, the snow-covered peak towering high above softly shaded clouds and the forest and village below. A charming image with attractive color and detail.
