Mitsuke: Ferry Boats and the Tenryu River

Series; Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido (Kichizo Tokaido), circa 1850

Kichizo Tokaido - During his lifetime, Hiroshige created many different versions of his popular "Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido" series. This chuban size Tokaido edition was published by Tsutaya Kichizo around 1850. Hiroshige created a total of 54 images for this work, rather than the usual 55. The stations of Shimada and Kanaya were combined into one design to produce an even number of pages for printing. Prints from this series are rarely seen on the market. These charming landscapes are a fine choice for a collector, and nicely complement Hiroshige's more commonly seen Tokaido series

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 6 1/2" x 8 7/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. A couple tiny holes, tiny tear in top margin, repaired. Slight soiling near edges. Notation in red ink at upper left. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
