Hiroshige II's Tokaido - Handsome Edo era woodblock from a Tokaido series by Hiroshige II, done very early in his career when he was about twenty-eight years old. This charming small series details the life of travelers along the famous route, featuring large figures set into attractive landscape settings. Nicely colored, these images often include soft bokashi shading to add a sense of depth. Whether crossing a river by ferry, walking a steep road, or riding in a palanquin, these travelers offer a fascinating look at life in old Japan.
