Original Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Visitor at a Garden Gate, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting kabuki depiction of a visitor in a plaid kimono standing at a garden gate, hunching forward with a frown, his feet spread firmly apart in wooden geta sandals. A young man kneels respectfully at left, holding out the purse attached to a cord around his neck, looking up at the man with a pleading expression. The beauty beside him looks down with an infatuated smile, pressing her sleeve to her chest. A blossoming cherry tree frames the scene overhead. Great expressive figures in an attractive setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 19 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few small holes, slight thinning at one bottom corner, repaired. Slight soiling, a few light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
