Series; The Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu)

The Tea Ceremony - These lovely woodblocks are from a series of prints by Toshikata illustrating the Japanese tea ceremony. Beautifully drawn and delicately colored, these tranquil designs capture the harmony and beauty associated with this classic ritual. Prints from this terrific series rarely come on the market. A wonderful choice for display, or for any collector interested in this timeless Japanese ceremony.

Sounding the Gong - This lovely design illustrates the host sounding a gong to recall guests from the nakadachi recess to return to the tea house for the second part of the full ceremony. The gong hangs in a doorway above a niche holding a floral arrangement. The beauty looks back over her shoulder at her assistant, who kneels beside her, gesturing with her hand.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse at edges from previous folio mounting. Some prints have a few small spots or slight soiling, or a few light creases. Please see photos for details.
