Series; The Thirty-six Outstanding Poems

Commoners Arguing, 1856 - Great kabuki design featuring the actors Bando Kamezo I as Tateba no Taheiji and Nakamura Fukusuke I as Kogara no Magoshichi in a scene from the classic play "Ehon Gappo-ga-Tsuji." Magoshichi sits on the ground, struggling to free his sword from under the foot of the evil Taheiji. His attacker holds a large knife and glares down at him, one shoulder of his plaid kimono pushed down to the waist. Gray smoke billows from the green pine sprigs placed on the brazier at left, and the ground is scattered with assorted objects, including a wooden pail of water, an empty tub, and even a small mill stone. An intriguing scene with wonderful detail in the household items.
