Beauties on a Verandah, 1855

Comments - Lovely triptych of beauties on a verandah in early spring. The woman in the center leans over a brazier cooking small strips of food, looking up with a smile as a companion approaches at right. Her outer robe is shaded from tan to white to yellow, bordered with pine sprigs, plum blossoms, and bamboo, worn over a red tie-dyed kimono edged with blue brocade. At left, a small girl kneels next to the wooden railing, admiring a view of the water beyond framed by blossoming trees, a rosy glow spreading along the horizon as the sun sets. In the room at right, men and women look outside with interest. Beautiful color and detail in the elegant clothing and setting. A wonderful Kuniyoshi beauty scene.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 28 1/4" x 14 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - With excellent color and detail. Three separate panels. Some toning and staining at edges. A few small holes repaired from reverse. A couple light creases. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
