A London Collection - This item is from an exceptional group of triptychs recently purchased from a London estate. The collection includes a significant number of rare designs – many that we have never sold or seen offered. The overall condition of the prints is outstanding with clean, bright subjects. There is almost no wear, soiling, or storage offsetting. Look for rare designs by Yoshitoshi, Chikanobu, Gekko and others. Shop the auctions marked “A London Collection” for an opportunity to add some especially rare triptychs to your collection.

Comments - Wonderful triptych depicting the great general Kusunoki Masashige and his wife escaping from his enemies, stopping for a brief rest in the countryside. The beauty lifts a blind to peer out of the palanquin she has been riding in, her husband standing alongside as his two retainers point to men approaching across a small stream. Beautifully drawn with delicate line work and fine detail, including fine cloth embossing in the white pants and touches of metallic silver pigment that have oxidized to a dark gray. A terrific image with a lovely landscape setting.

Artist - Toshikata (1866 - 1908)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 27 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical center fold in center panel, will be shipped folded. Very slight separation at ends of fold, repaired. A few faint stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
