Sanada Saemonnojo Yukimura Waiting in Ambush in a Lotus Pond - Fantastic scene of the samurai Sanada Saemonnojo Yukimura lying in wait in a lotus pond to ambush Tokugawa Ieyasu. Sanada originally served Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but after his master's death, he became allied with Ieyasu. Unhappily with the relationship, he revolted against him, was exiled, but escaped. His planned ambush was unsuccessful and he was later killed in battle. Yoshitoshi shows the warrior crouching under the towering lotus leaves as rain slants across the dark night sky, leaning forward intently, a gun in his hands. Alert to his opportunity, he waits silently, muscles tensed and ready to spring into action. A terrific, atmospheric scene.
