Our Army's Advance Guard Storms the 100 Foot Cliff at Fort Hojo Near Wei-Hai-Wei and Occupies it, 1895

Comments - Terrific scene from the Sino-Japanese War of Japanese troops attacking Fort Hojo near Wei-Hai-Wei during the Battle of the 100 Foot Cliff. In the center, an officer on horseback thrusts his sword out to urge his men ahead as he gallops through the snow. Carrying guns with bayonets fixed, the men rush to follow. Behind them, a general watches from his horse among the trees. At left, soldiers engage the enemy in hand-to-hand combat, meeting them just below the walls of the fort. A light snow falls over the mountainous landscape, the sky dusted with mica in the center panel. A handsome composition with fine bokashi shading and burnished details on the black uniforms.

Artist - Ichino Eiichi (active circa 1894-95)

Image Size - 14" x 27 7/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Loss at bottom right corner of left panel, slight thinning at one corner, repaired. Wrinkling, slight soiling, faint ink offsetting, slight rubbing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
