View of Shinbashi, circa 1839 - 1842 - Terrific view of a daimyo's procession crossing over Shinbashi Bridge in Edo. Two servants lead the way carrying trunks over their shoulders, followed by standard bearers and retainers, with the daimyo riding in a palanquin in the center. The street is bustling with activity as a man at left leads an ox pulling a cart and two beauties enter a shop, with a young boy pointing at the procession. In the center, two laborers pulling a cart piled with bundles of grain pause to let the samurai pass by, while shopkeepers peer from beneath the curtains and doorways of their stores. A great image with wonderful detail.
