Comments - Handsome illustration from the Sino-Japanese War of Japanese troops in the snow as shots come streaking across the landscape at them. In the center, an officer stands in front of his horse with his gun in hand, looking in the direction of the shells. Another officer on horseback leans over to steady his fellow soldier's horse. Two other men shelter behind the trees at right, one gesturing towards the puff of smoke in the distance. Each of the men wears straw leggings as protection from the heavy snow. An interesting subject, nicely composed.
