Series; A Brief History of Japan in Pictures
Tametomo and the Ocean Wave, 1878 - Fantastic depiction of the great archer Chinzei Hachiro Tametomo perched on the side of a cliff as an enormous wave slams into the rock, sending up a mash of tumbling water and white foam. Tametomo stands steadfastly, pointing out into the distance, the wind whipping his hair, as two retainers kneel at his side, one holding a rustic bow. In the distance, a warm glow spreads along the horizon as the sun sets. A fantastic image, wonderfully detailed.
