Monk Spying on a Beauty, 1854

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a monk spying on a beauty, peering out around a sliding shoji panel. He frowns unhappily, wearing a gray robe, his hair growing out from being previously shaved. The beauty kneels on the floor of the other room, smiling as she looks up, tugging on someone's hem. Blue and gray checked kimono features floral and geometric motifs in each square, and she has a dotted towel draped over her shoulder. A niche behind her holds an elegant lacquer box, the panels below decorated with a lotus blossom and leaves. Nice detail in setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 19 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Two separate panels. A few wormholes and holes, repaired. Slight soiling and creasing, slight rubbing near edges. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
