Courtesan and Kamuro with a Koto, 1868

Comments - Charming image of a courtesan preparing to play the koto. She kneels beside the instrument, fitting a pick to her finger as her kamuro or child apprentice offers a small lacquer box to her. The beauty's elegant outer robe features peonies and a lion, and her hair is pulled back into two loops, adorned with two combs and many hairpins that feature a crossed feather crest on them. A cherry tree blooms overhead against a softly shaded background. A handsome portrait, detailed with embossing in the white kimono collar.

Artist - Kunisada II (1823 - 1880)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 3/8" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. A few small holes, a couple small tears, repaired. Toning, slight soiling, small rubbed spot. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
