Comments - Incredible depiction of the eruption of Mt. Bandai in 1888, sending up chunks of rock and debris, which rain down over the countryside as lava begins to flow from the peak. Panic ensues in the village at lower left, with people running for shelter and trees blowing wildly. Boulders hail down over the thatched-roof houses, and at upper left, a home tumbles through the sky upside-down, uprooted by the explosion. A fantastic, dramatic image, with a dark and ominous atmosphere. Beautifully detailed with fine bokashi shading and a scattering of hand applied pigment in the ash and debris.
